The apparatus according to the invention for guiding a laser beam avoids tilting the laser beam with regard to the exposed plane by the laser beam being displaced parallel to a perpendicular direction of incidence. A support roller with a spiral band on the circumferential surface serves as deflection element. The band has a reflecting surface. A laser beam running parallel to the circumferential surface strikes the reflecting surface and is reflected towards the exposed plane. The striking point shifts on the reflecting surface of the band through rotation of the support roller so that the laser beam is displaced in parallel. The reflecting surface can be of hollow-mirror-like and slanting design.
