<p>PURPOSE:To rapidly execute the discrimination of new or old of a tape by reading a recorded content in the read-in area of time magnetic tape and discriminating whether an identification data is recorded or not from the read result. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic tape MT is loaded to a DAT 3, reproducing from the top of the magnetic tape MT is started and simultaneously a timer counting the reproducing time of a read-in area C is started. Simultaneously with the reproducing operation, whether the identification data is detected in the read-in area D or not from a reproduced result is discriminated. Then, when the identification data is detected, the loaded magnetic tape MT is judged as an old tape, control information recorded on a TOC area D succeeding to the read-in area C of the magnetic tape MT is read in a RAM 7 through a TOC control part 8 and simultaneously a head 32 is moved relatively to a prescribed address and a next step for filing operation is started.</p> |
