The target recognition device contains a detector matrix (1) and a clock generator. Outputs accumulated during one period are separately digitised for matrix rows and columns in a second period using a threshold comparator (3), esp. with an adaptive threshold. The digitised values are correlated with reference values by an evaluation unit (6). A combining circuit consists of AND gates (4) for each two outputs of adjacent detector elements or preceding AND gates in appropriate stages for the detector rows and columns. The stages are successively activated by the clock generator. A status register for evaluatable status words corresp. to detector elements above the threshold is connected to the outputs of the threshold comparator and corresp. AND gate. USE/ADVANTAGE - For 'intelligent' munitions. Achieves very fast processing without high signal processing requirements.
