PURPOSE:To produce an alicyclic polycarbonate which hardly discolors and has an improved thermal stability by melt polycondensing a specific dihydroxy compd. with diphenyl carbonate in the presence of an epoxy compd. CONSTITUTION:An alicylic dihydroxy compd. of formula I (wherein X is a divalent alcylic hydrocarbon group) is melt polycondensed with diphenyl carbonate in the presence of an epoxy compd. having at least one epoxy group of formula II in an amt. of 0.00001-0.5mol (based on 1mol of the dihydroxy compd.) in an inert gas atmosphere at 150-350 deg.C, giving an alicyclic polycarbonate having a number-average mol.wt. (by gel permeation chromatography, in terms of PS) of 10,000-300,000. |
