A pneumatic screwdriver contains a screwdriver piston which moves a screwdriver back and forth between retracted and forward positions and pref. contains a delivery piston for reciprocally moving the screwdriver head. The screwdriver piston and/or the delivery piston has or is a magnet and at least one magnet detector (4,6) is arranged along its path of motion. The detector contactlessly detects when the magnet reaches its axial position and produces a corresp. signal. USE/ADVANTAGE - Ejects screws which are not successfully screwed in. Enables entire stroke of screwdriver piston to be detected without increasing its overall dimensions.
