PURPOSE:To enable high accurate position detection in a navigation device for vehicle, which has a correcting means for correcting (map matching) error in the case that an error exists between a current position of an automobile on a map displayed with image and the real current position of the vehicle, in the case that a simple acceleration sensor or the like is used. CONSTITUTION:A map storage means A1, in which map information is stored, a travelling position detecting means A2 for detecting current travelling position of an automobile, a direction change detecting means A3 for detecting change of direction of the automobile, and a position correcting means A4 for comparing the current position of the automobile detected by the travelling position detecting means A2 and the position information of an intersection included in the map information to be obtained by extraction from the map storage means A1 when the direction change detecting means A3 detects direction change of the automobile and for correcting the current position of the automobile to the position of the intersection in the case that the current position of the automobile and the position of the intersection are dislocated from each other are provided. |
