The loss reduction circuit uses a capacitor (2) discharged via one switch path (a-b) of a relay (15) and a power FET (8) receiving part of the capacitor charge upon opening of a second switch path (b-c). A bipolar transistor (9) has its collector coupled to the gate (G) of the FET and its emitter coupled to the junction between the FET and a series resistor (10). A second series circuit of a resistor (11) and a capacitor (13) is coupled across the bipolar transistor.
