Generating electrical power from water - using linear displacement of piston by water pressure to drive dynamo

The energy generation device has a cylinder (5) and a hollow piston (7), both incorporating pivoted flaps (8, 9), the piston (7) having an attached rod (4) projecting above the water surface and acting as a toothed rack cooperating with a gearwheel (15). The latter is used to rotate a drive shaft (2) for a dynamo (1) when the piston (7) is displaced by the water pressure when the cylinder flap (9) is opened. Pref. the flaps (8, 9) are opened and closed via a computer control, the piston (7) being retracted via a relatively small electric motor (16) supported by a stand lying above the water surface. The cylinder (5) is pref. supported from the water bed via anchoring struts (14).
