The signal lead (13) has several light conductors (15-18) and the switch device (14) has several switch elements for selective connection of two or more light conductor elements. The switch device incorporates a mechanically operated positioning unit which serves to transmit non-electrical adjustments to the switch elements. Such adjustments are mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic. The switch elements are formed from coding masks which which can be inserted in the radiation path of the of the interrupted light conductors in the area of the switch device for information of two light conductor elements. The coding masks are formed as holed discs which interrupt completely or partly the radiation path between the light conductor elements. USE/ADVANTAGE - Signal transmission using non-risk, danger-free circuit, suitable for use in areas subject to explosion risk.
