The electronic control unit (10) has a regulator (1) that compares the actual vehicle speed with a stored reference value and generates an output to adjust the throttle (4) of the fuelling system. The throttle position is monitored by a potentiometer (5) and feedback is generated via an A/D converter (11) to a low pass filter (12) that prevents minor fluctuations having an effect. The filter output, together with the acceleration values obtained by differentiating (13) the tacho speed signals (7), is used to obtain control values from a table (14) used by the regulator to obtain a stable setting.
