<p>A clamping apparatus (10) for lockingly engaging and supporting an elongate body (11), such as a pipeline span extending above an irregular sea bed. The clamping apparatus (10) includes a saddle (12) shaped to overlie the pipeline span to be supported and an anchor frame (13) straddling the saddle (12) and pivotably coupled thereto. The saddle (12) includes clamps (20a, 20b) which automatically swing to a closed position when the saddle (12) is seated on the elongate body (11). The clamps (20a, 20b) may be releasibly locked in the closed position. The anchor frame (13) has extensible legs (40) for supporting the elongate body (11) on an underlying support surface, such as a sandy sea bed. A toolpost (105) may be removably connected to the clamping apparatus for remotely controlling operation of the locking and support leg extension mechanisms.</p> |
