Carbon@-filled ceramic composite - comprising ceramic matrix with carbon domain dispersed in it

A carbon-filled ceramic composite (I) has a ceramic matrix and a carbon domain dispersed in it having a dia. of 0.01-30 microns and a ratio of 5-70%. Also claimed are: (i) prodn. of (I); (ii) a sliding part contg. (I); (iii) an appts. comprising sliding members made of (I). Pref. (I) has a hollow space ratio of not more than 20 (not more than 10)%, a bending strength of not more than 250 MPa at room temp., and thermal shock resistance of not more than 250 deg. C, pref. at least 350 deg. C. The carbon domain dia. is 0.05-20 or 0.1-15 microns and ratio is 7-60 or 15-50%. The ceramic matrix is made of a ceramic powder from oxides, carbides, nitrides, borides and mixts. of two or more of these, or SiC. (I) contains a ceramic powder of at least 90 wt.% purity and average particle dia. of 0.05-5 microns. ADVANTAGE - (I) has high strength, sliding properties and thermal shock resistance
