<p>Techniques for forming fibres from glass or other thermoplastic materials by internal centrifuging in combination with gaseous drawing at high temperature. The material to be made into fibre is poured inside a centrifuge whose peripheral band is pierced with a very large number of orifices from which the material is projected in the form of filaments which are drawn into fibres and entrained by a gas stream at high temperature and velocity, directed along the periphery of the centrifuge, transversely to the direction of projection of the fibres, and channelled by a cold gaseous sheet surrounding it which, according to the invention, is made up, over the whole pierced height of the peripheral band, of divergent individualised jets which are joined together shortly after the lowest row of orifices of the peripheral band.
