PURPOSE:To produce a 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid useful as a synthetic raw material for various drugs and physiologically active substances by using a bacterium. CONSTITUTION:A 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyronitrile is treated with a nitrile hydrolase derived from a bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter, Nocardia, Pseudonocardia, Rhodococcus or Caseobacter to produce a 4-halo-3- hydroxybutyric acid. |
