The car door hinge consists of a pin (1) on which two rotating hinge arms are fixed. The shorter arm (2) is screwed to the door or frame by lugs extending at right angles. The other, longer arm is cranked, and screwed to the door/frame. Additionally, in the crank section, a shaft is placed both through hinge and mounting surface. The shaft is riveted to the hinge and welded at its other end to the door/frame. USE/ADVANTAGE - Shaft extension on cranked hinge acts as strut and improves stiffness of hinge.
