PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for antimicrobial compounds by reacting a 7-oxo-5-substituted-5-azaspiro[2,4]heptanes with ammonia in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (Q is CH2 or CO; R1 and R2 are 1-5C alkyl or bound to form 2-5C alkylene chain; R3 is phenylalkyl, trityl, benzhydryl, etc.) is allowed to react with ammonia in the presence of hydrogen and a Raney catalyst (e.g. Raney cobalt), preferably in a solvent (e.g. methanol) at ordinary temperature to 200 deg.C to afford the objective substance expressed by formula II. As the ammonia, liquid ammonia may be served also as a solvent or ammonia gas dissolved in a solvent may be used. 7-Amino-5- benzyl-5-azaspiro[2,4]heptane is cited as the compound expressed by formula II. |
