PURPOSE:To obtain an image recording medium with a sharp gradation image and superb durability by thermally attaching a protecting layer transfer unit consisting of a transparent adhesive layer containing an ultraviolet-curable resin provided on a support to an image recording surface where a gradation image and a character image are formed under pressure, and irradiating the unit with an ultraviolet beam for curing prior to or after the peeling off of the support. CONSTITUTION:An image receiving layer 1b is provided on one surface of a support 1a, and a gradation information image 3 and a character information image 4 are formed in the image-receiving layer 1b using a sublimable thermal transfer technique and a sublimable or fusible thermal transfer technique respectively. A transfer protecting layer formation medium for forming a transparent resin transfer protecting layer 5 on the images 34 is formed by laminating a heat-resistant film support/a peel-off layer/a transparent resin transfer protecting layer (adhesive layer)/an overcoat layer, or the support/if necessary, the peel-off layer/the overcoat layer/the adhesive layer in that order. The adhesive layer is composed of a thermal plastic resin binder, an ultraviolet-curable prepolymer, a polymerization initiator and other components. The recommended adhesive layer should be sublimable and dye-receptive. |
