The energy absorption device consists of a flat bar (1) and a channel section (2). The thickness of the bar (1) is less than the width between the inside faces of the flanges of the channel section. The bar is connected to the channel section by a strip of material which can be plastically deformed. The strip (3) is bent to a U-shape with legs of unequal length with the longer leg attached to the bar and the shorter leg attached to the inside surface of one of the flanges of the channel section. When the bar is subjected to a force F it is pushed into the channel section with the strip (3) being deformed as it absorbs energy and reaches its end position of fig.
