The still video signal is processed by a digital signal processor and then recorded on a magnetic tape to achieve inexpensive still picture with high signal to noise ratio. The recorder includes an image pick up unit (40) for capturing image of object, for dividing image signal into fundamental color signal and for compensating the signals, an external image signal receiver (50) for dividing input image signal into fundamental color signals, an input image selector (70) for selecting image signals of the image pickup unit or the external image receiver, a digital signal processor (80) for processing selected analog image signal, and a recorder (90) for recording the digital image signals processed by the digital signal processor on a magnetic tape.
