A method is claimed for the synthesis of phosphines of general formulae (I) RnPH3-n, where R is straight- or branched-chain alkyl C1-C24, cycloalkyl, benzyl or allyl and n = 1 or 2; (II) H2P(C(A)(B))mPH2, where A and/or B are R, H, phenyl; m = 2, 3 or 4. From phosphines and allyl halides in the presence of base catalysed by quat. ammonium or phospherium salts.
