<p>A process for producing a propylene random copolymer comprising the repeating units (I) - (III) in quantities of 70 - 99.9 molar % of (I), 0 - 15 molar % and 0.1 - 30 molar %, respectively, which comprises copolymerising monomers which afford the following repeating units: <CHEM> wherein m is 0 or an integer of 2-10, R alpha , R beta and R gamma independently represent H or a C1-5 hydrocarbyl group, at least one of R beta and R gamma being the hydrocarbyl group, and n is an integer of 1-5, in the presence of a polymerization catalyst comprising: a transition metal compound (A) of formula: <MATH> wherein (C5H5-a-bR<1>b) and (C5H5-a-cR<2>c), are conjugated five-membered ring ligands coordinated with Me, R<1> and R<2>, are C1-20 hydrocarbyl groups, halogen, alkoxy, a silicon-containing, phosphorus-containing, nitrogen-containing or a boron-containing hydrocarbyl group, Q is a bonding group crosslinking the two conjugated five membered ring ligands, Me represents a transition metal of groups IVB-VIB in the Periodic Table, X and Y represent H, halogen, a hydrocarbyl group, an alkoxy group, an amino group, a phosphorus-containing or a silicon-containing hydrocarbyl group, a is 0 or 1, b is an integer in the range of 0 </= b </= 4 and c denotes an integer in the range of 0 </= c </= 4; and component (B) which is an alumoxane. The ethylenical unsaturation in the copolymer afforded by the repeating unit (III) provides the copolymer with improved susceptibility to adhesion, painting or printing at a rather low level of the unit (III) in the copolymer without substantial sacrifice in moldability of the copolymer.</p> |
