ACRYLIC ARTIFICIAL MARBLE HAVING PITCH-BLACK COLOR AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide a pitch-black acrylic artificial marble resistant to the deterioration of its beautiful appearance caused by conspicuous white scratch streak and provide a process for the production of the marble. CONSTITUTION:The objective pitch-black artificial marble is composed of 20-80wt.% of a methacrylate polymer composed mainly of methyl methacrylate and 80-20wt.% of carbonaceous fine powder such as carbon black. It can be produced by mixing (A) 20-80wt.% of an unsaturated monomer composed mainly of methyl methacrylate or syrup of the monomer with (B) 20-80wt.% of carbonaceous fine powder and polymerizing and hardening the mixture along the surface of a mold. Since black carbonaceous fine powder is used as a filler, a scratch does not leave a white streak and the beautiful appearance and the luxury feeling can be maintained even if scratched.
