PRODUCTION OF MONO-EXCHANGED COMPOUND OF ORGANIC SILICON COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield by carrying out the exchange reaction of an organic silicon compound having alkoxy or acyloxy group with an alcohol, etc., and recycling the by-produced poly-exchanged materials to the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R<1> is <=10C hydrocarbon residue; R<2> is H or <=5C acyl; (n) is 0-2) such as tetramethoxysilane is made to react with a compound of formula R<3>-OH (R<3> is <=20C organic residue). The mono- exchanged compound of formula II produced by the above reaction is separated from the poly-exchanged by-products such as di-exchanged compound of formula III and tri-exchanged compound of formula IV by conventional means such as distillation and chromatography. The poly-exchanged by-product separated and removed by the above process is recycled to the reaction system of the compound of formula I and the compound of formula R<3>-OH to effect the exchange reaction. The exchange reaction is preferably carried out at 40-130 deg.C.
