PRODUCTION OF ALKYLGLYCOSIDE

PURPOSE:To obtain an alkylglycoside having good hue by reacting a sugar with a higher alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst and aging the reaction product in a state of thin film, thereby quickly decreasing the unreacted sugar dissolved in the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:A sugar (preferably <=6C reducing sugar such as glucose) is made to react with a higher alcohol (preferably 6-22C chain alcohol or its alkylene oxide adduct) in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid) preferably at 90-120 deg.C. The reaction product is subjected to aging reaction in a state of thin film. The aging reaction is preferably carried out at 70-110 deg.C when the reaction ratio of the sugar and the higher alcohol reaches >=90%. The thin-film reactor to be used in the aging reaction is e.g. a falling-film reactor and a drum evaporator.
