Stopping outbreaks of oil and gas from borehole riser - by pumping drilling mud into riser with system that includes crane with long outrigger

Method includes measuring the position of the borehole; bringing a delivery pipe, open at both ends, to this position; inserting one end of the pipe into the riser, shutting off the other end of the pipe, and pumping drilling-mud through the pipe into the riser. Variants include a specially equipped vehicle with an outrigger, and a device for use in stopping the outbreak. Self-propelled crane (2) has a very long (e.g., 30 m) outrigger (4) with a manipulator (6) at its outer end. Manipulator forms a holder for the delivery pipe (8) and for a separate centring cone (10). Flexible hose running along the outrigger supplies drilling mud from the crane to an arrangement from which it is pumped into the delivery pipe (8), which can be vertically adjusted hydraulically. USE/ADVANTAGE - Outbreak, partic. a burning outbreak, of oil or gas from a riser that has been put out of action, can quickly, and with max. safety to personnel, be stopped with this simple equipment.
