2,4 - Dicyanobut - 1 - ene is prepared by heating acrylonitrile, in the presence of a polymerisation inhibitor and the absence of oxygen, with a tertiary phosphine of formula PR1R2R3, in which R1, R2 and R3 are saturated aliphatic, saturated cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals. The preferred reaction temperature is 50 DEG -180 DEG C., and a solvent may be used. Specified phosphines are tricyclohexyl-, tricyclopentyl-, dibutylphenyl- and tributylphospines. Specified polymerisation inhibitors are hydroquinone, t - butyl - pyrocatechol, acetylacetone, ferrous acetylacetonate, phenol, guaiacol, a - naphthol, o - phenylphenol and p-methoxyphenol. |
