PURPOSE:To obtain the titled vaccine having no fear of side effect, constituting the pilus layer on the surface of a mold of bacterium belonging to the genus Streptococcus having dental caries inducing ability or its extract as an antigen. CONSTITUTION:A vaccine for preventing dental caries comprising the pilus layer on the surface of a mold of a bacterium e.g., Streptococcus mutans variant K- Dp strain (FERM-P 6423), etc. belonging to the genus Streptococcus having dental caries inducing ability or its extract as an antigen. Since no significance is found in the immunological sepcificity of an antigen contained in the pilus layer of the bacterium, the pilus layer obtained from all human type bacteria can be used as an atigen of a vaccine for preventing dental caries. A dose of 0.2-1.0ml vaccine per time is applied to man be hydodermic injection or intramuscular injection, preferably by injection into the mucosa of the oral cavity. |
