<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a high-speed scanning mechanism for the scanner which reads a bar code symbol by swinging a scanning element according to a uniaxial scanning pattern or multiaxial scanning pattern. CONSTITUTION: The light beam emitted by a light source travels through a window 18 along an optical path and impinges on a display to be read, e.g. the bar code symbol. In the scanner 10, an optical detector which has a view area for collecting reflected light returning from the symbol through the window 18, e.g. a photodiode is arranged. The scanning element arranged in the scanner 10 operates to scan the symbol and/or the view area of the optical detector. The scanning element is a light reflector which is arranged in the emission and/or return path and the light reflector is swung by an electric operation type driving means at a specific frequency alternately in the circumferential direction.</p> |
