Plasticisation of lignin extracted from wood or other plants, with the aim of making it thermoplastic so as to make it suitable for injection moulding, extrusion and other techniques applied to thermoplastic polymers.The plasticisers claimed are essentially ketones, phenols or heavy alcohols which are liquid or can be liquefied at low temperature and which have a boiling point equal to or higher than 170 DEG C. The choice of the most efficient plasticisers relates chiefly to camphor, its isomer, fenchone, or to its eutectics with phenols such as thymol. The compositions obtained can be blended with other thermoplastic polymers. The products obtained are all thermoplastic and usable as such.
