The present invention relates to a novel geometric method enabling all types of garments to be made automatically by cutting operations calculated on the basis of a known basic element. This novel device, according to Figure 1, is characterised by a basic element A D O X or pattern having a real surface area smaller than the apparent surface area of the garment marked out for a large size. The same pattern outline is drawn inside the area of the basic element. These lines are marked on a length of fabric folded along the axis AD, and the characteristic lines RS, AG GK1, X1 X2 X3 8, H7, Y3 E, M, BF, CM connected together are the means by which the new characteristic points F1, F3, H, 100 and S are defined. Their values in centimetres are stored in a computer program which controls a cutter or a cutting system. A number of complementary pivots P, Z, M are marked out, cut and transferred to define the curve (cut), the waist (size) or the style. The present invention is used in the clothing industry. <IMAGE>
