A process for working up polyethylene-contg. material (I) involves treating (I) simultaneously with a solvent (II) and a precipitating agent (III) at temps. from above the b.pt. of (III) up to about 373 K. The mixt. of (II) and (III) contains up to 10 wt.% (III); (II) and (III) are miscible in all proportions and the b.pt. of (II) is higher than that of (III); pref., (II) is a chlorinated hydrocarbon and (III) is a protic solvent (or mixts. contg. these solvents).
