System for recording an information signal, and record carrier and recording apparatus for use in the system. A recording system is revealed, in which an optically inscribable record carrier (32) is provided with adjustment information which is indicative of the write signal waveforms (Vs) required to record an information signal (Vi) on the record carrier (32). The recording system further comprises a recording apparatus comprising a control circuit (62) for deriving the write signals (Vs) from the information signal (Vi). The recording apparatus comprises a read device (30, 38, 39, 40) for reading the adjustment information in a time interval prior to recording. The control circuit (62) comprises an adjustment circuit (66) which adjusts the write signal waveforms to be used during recording in conformity with the adjustment information read. (Fig. 7)
