<p>A pointing gesture (22), a method of communication using a set of pointing gestures, and mnemonic devices (83) used between a sender (15) and a receiver (17) are described herein. In the preferred embodiment, the pointing gestures (22) are performed by the sender (15) using the index (33) and middle (38) fingers and thumb (39) of the hand (21) as a primary (32) and ancillary (37) indicators. The sender (15) performs the pointing gestures (22) in a field (50) located between the sender (15) and the receiver (17). The field contains a plurality of possible vector patterns (47). Each gesture (22) is programmable. After each pointing gesture (22) is performed in the field, the possible vector patterns in the field relocate. In the preferred embodiment, each gesture (22) is associated with one of thirty-six possible communication codes from a modified set of IPA phonemes. Several types of mnemonic devices (70, 80, 83, 95) are disclosed herein designed to help the sender (15) and receiver (17) communicate using the pointing gestures (22).</p> |
