Process for antipollution treatment and recovery of the metals in a deactivated catalyst containing at least one metal chosen from the group formed by rhenium and the noble metals of group VIII of the Periodic Classification of the elements. The process is characterised especially in that: a) the catalyst discharged from the industrial unit is optionally subjected to calcination in critical conditions; b) the calcined catalyst undergoes a heat treatment in the presence of an alkaline base in the molten state; c) the solid mass resulting from stage b) is treated with water. The process applies to an antipollution treatment and to the recovery of metals from deactivated catalysts, especially reforming, hydrogenation and hydroformylation catalysts.
