PURPOSE:To enable accurate measurement of both high energy and low/medium energy radiation by separating the both radiation through detecting Cherenkov radiation for the high energy radiation and scintillation radiation for the low energy radiation, respectively. CONSTITUTION:In case of high energy radiation detection, sample water is only made to flow through the detection tank 36 and Cherenkov radiation is made to be generated by high energy charged particles from radioactive substances contained in the sample water, within the detection tank 36, and then the radiation is detected by a photomultiplier 38. On the other hand, in case of low/medium energy radiation detection, mixed sample water is made by a mixer 32 through actuation of a pump 30 and a scintillator is made to scintillate by radiation from radioactive substances contained in the mixed sample water within the detection tank 36, and then the scintillation radiation is detected by the photomultiplier 38. Output of the photomultiplier 38 is sent to a measurement part 42. At this time, discrimination levels of a discriminator 46 can be set to a high energy level or a low/medium energy level by a controller 54 and therefore both levels can be separately measured alternatively or in series.
