A change-speed gear has a number of parallel selector rods 51, each provided with a forked link end 16 for engagement by a number of axially-spaced cams (1 to 4), Figs. 1 and 10 (not shown), integral with a slide-and-turn selector shift-bar 8 housed in a gear case 50 the side walls 31 or 32 of which limit the sliding movement of the selector rods 51 during gear establishment, one or other fork arms 12, 13 on the link ends 16 engaging a corresponding aperture (5, 6 or 7), (Fig. 1) in the shift-bar 8 to lock the selector against lateral movement during gear establishment. The cams may be formed singly or as opposed pairs on the shiftbar and the selector rods arranged to have the sliding movement limited to one side of the casing only by fitting a circlip (19) at their opposite ends (Fig. 2, not shown). Additionally, the link ends 16 of the selector rods may be modified to form a shoulder (23), (Fig. 4, not shown), serving to axially position the shiftbar 8 prior to gear establishment. |
