1,123,736. Making commutators. MANUFACTURE DE VILEBREQUINS DE LORETTE. 8 July, 1966 [12 July, 1965], No. 30908/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A method of making a face commutator comprises making a number of commutator segments 2 having grooves on their rotor facing surfaces, releasably attaching the segments to a member 3 with their rotor facing surfaces facing away from the member, moulding the segments to insulating material and finally removing the member from the segments. The segments 2 are cut from a strip of copper or an alloy thereof and stamped to the required shape, which includes a groove 2a in each. The segments are placed on the member 3 which is provided with radial ribs 3d. The assembly is offered up to a rotor shaft and the windings are connected to the segments 2 in notches 2b. Synthetic resin material is injected in a mould provided for the rotor, the material entering the gaps between the segments formed by the ribs 3d and the recesses 2d. The member 3 is then removed and face of the commutator deburred and ground as required. |
