The invention concerns electrooptic modulators. It consists in associating a Y junction coupler having a length L1 (101-108) with a passive coupler (104, 105), the length L2 of which compared with the coupling length LC2 is established in order to substantially nullify the third order distortions of the modulator. A modulator is obtained in which all the even distortions are nullified, the odd order distortion is substantially nil and the extinction level may be nil.
