Cable twisting - uses material take=off drum and conveyor screw with twisting core to give fine strands in left and right twist

To give a continuous cable twisting action to strands such as of electrical cores or filaments or wires or strands of metal, plastics, mineral, (in)organic materials, the material (5) is drawn from fixed bobbins (6) through a guide (7) in parallel and at an adjustable angle to the take-off drum (8), pref. at the pitch angle of the conveyor screw (11). The material is wound round the take-off drum (8) through the power (10) rotation of the drum. The material is transferred from the take-off drum (8) to the conveyor screw (11), from the mounting housing (9), while rollers (13) maintain the parallel lie of the material (5) round the drum. The pitch angle of the threading round the screw (11) advances the material (5) to the twisting core (12), assisted by continuous belts (15) on both sides of the screw (11), to move the strands to the free conical end of the twisting core (12). After the material has left the twisting core (12), it is drawn in an axial direction for further twisting in a beaten length matching the circumference of the take-off drum (8) together with an increase through the preset pitch of the conveyor screw (11). The drum circumference and screw pitch can be adjusted to vary the beaten length of the twisted cable, as can the direction of drum (8) rotation and a left or right screw (11) to give a left or right twisted cable. ADVANTAGE - The appts. gives twisted cables in left and right twists, using thin and flexible strand material.
