A natural casing is composed of individual gut sections (34,36), which concentrically overlap in an overlap area. The gut sections are pre-treated with an edible acid, for example lactic acid, so that the collagen fraction swells and the elasticity and adhesiveness are increased. After the gut ends have been pushed together the composite natural casing is dried. <IMAGE>
