The electron microscope with a tube (1) housing the specimen stage (2), which has a hole (4) in the centre into which is fitted the specimen cartridge, and inside the tube is a ring shaped surface (5) enclosing the stage, and supporting a pair of pivot arms (8, 9) forming part of a system by means of which the stage can be adjusted at right angles to the central axis (3) of the tube. The stage has a pair of cut-outs to one side, with two sloping surfaces (6, 7) which forms a right angle with their intersection point on the central axis (3), and on which rest the contact points of the pivot arms (8, 9) which are held against adjusting screws (14) at their outer ends (13) by springs. Between these two cut-outs is a triangular projection (15) with one face held against a pivot (16) by a further spring so that the stage is suspended so that by altering the adjusting screws (14) the required adjustment can be made. |
