A vertical auger bottom-fill bag filling machine (10) including a conical auger bowl (88) depending from a cylindrical hopper (76), with the bowl (88) being connected to the hopper (76) and a fill tube (92) by flexible gaskets (100). A vertical auger shaft (104) extends through the hopper (76), bowl (88) and tube (92), with a section of flighting (114) disposed within the bowl and tube to compress, de-aerate, and dispense the product. An agitator (220) mounted on the bottom of an agitator drive shaft (222), which circumscribes the auger shaft (104) and rotates independent thereof, and has paddles (244) which move and press product downwardly in the bowl (88). An inverted venting cone (206) disposed within the bowl (88), has a vent tube (212) extending upwardly terminating proximate to the top of the hopper (76). The cone (206) and (212) are connected to the bowl (88) vibrate therewith, the tube (212) surrounding and being spaced apart from the shaft (104) and agitator drive shaft (212). The fill tube (92) includes an enlarged upper section (96) which permits the bowl (88) to vibrate even though the flighting (114) and lower section (98) of the tube (92) are closely fitted. |
