Peptised activated carbon and alumina contg. cementitious composites - used for purificn of liq. or gas streams and as desiccant

Composite (I) is obtd. by (i) blending alumina hydrate and activated carbon powders of 0.5-500 microns size and (ii) mixing with H2O and a peptising agentorming the mixt. into a green body and (iv) heating to form the activated composite. Pref. in (iv) heating comprises drying then calcining. Alumina in (i) is pref. bochmite and carbon is charcoal or lampblack. Agent in (ii) is e.g. HNO3, HAc or an acid salt etc.. (I) pref. contains 40-85% carbon plus 5-20% alumina.
