<p>A hand held spreading device (10) is disclosed for broadcast spreading material via a rotating impeller (42). The device (10) has an actuating assembly including an actuating member (78) and a dual spring arrangement (80) interconnected with the actuating member (78). One of the springs (82) causes material to be discharged onto the impeller (42) in response to movement of the actuating member (78) and prevents damage of the device (10) resulting from excessive movement of the actuating member (78). The second spring (84) biases the actuating member (78) to move to an idle position in which no material is discharged onto the impeller (42) and causes the actuating member (78) to return to this idle position after movement thereof.</p> |
