<p>The suspension system suspends a final drive unit (10,12) installed on an automotive vehicle. The final drive unit (10,12) includes a drive shaft (18) driven by a propeller shaft via a cardan joint (30), and output shafts (24) for transmitting drive from the drive shaft (18) to road wheels. The drive shaft (18) has an axis (20) extending longitudinally of the vehicle. The output shafts (24) have a common axis (28) extending transversely of the vehicle. The final drive unit (10,12) is subject to reaction torques inducing rolling angular displacement around the drive shaft axis (20) and reaction torque inducing pitching angular displacement around the output shaft axis (28) during vehicle driving. The suspension system includes elastic suspension elements for elastically flexibly suspending the final drive unit (10,12) with respect to the vehicle, at suspension points (S1,S2,S3) located at different positions to reduce the pitching angular displacement substantially to zero. <IMAGE></p> |
