The invention concerns a pressure roll consisting of a stationary body 1 with a concave sliding shoe 5 and a flexible jacket 2 rotating around the body, which under the influence of a counterroll is bent toward the sliding shoe. Flanges 4 that rotate together with the jacket are situated in the ends of the roll. Tightening flanges 3, which are softer than the jacket, connect the sealing jacket and flanges. This permits use of fairly rigid jackets 2. The jacket can be shorter than the sliding shoe. <IMAGE>
