PURPOSE:To enhance response speed, low temp. operativity and mechanical strength by forming a membrane composed of a zirconia solid electrolyte to one surface of a ceramic porous body having air permeability in a closely bonded state through an electrode and further forming an electrode on said membrane. CONSTITUTION:In such a stat that, for example, the atmosphere as standard gas is brought into contact with one surface of a ceramic porous body, gas to be measured is brought into contact with the membrane 3 composed of a zirconia solid electrolyte formed to the other surface of the porous body 1 and the electromotive force generated across both electrodes 2, 4 by the difference of oxygen partial pressure between the gas to be measured and the standard gas is detected to calculate the concn. of oxygen in the gas to be measured. At this time, since the membrane of the zirconia solid electrolyte is used as the main body of an element, response speed and low temp. operativity are excellent and the membrane inferior to mechanical strength is reinforced by the ceramic porous body 1. Therefore, mechanical strength is enhanced as a whole and the generation of a crack due to the physical and thermal responding force generated during assembling work or at the time of operation is prevented. |
