PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, high-performance, large-aperture optical system and imaging apparatus suitable for a compact imaging system.SOLUTION: An optical system comprises, sequentially from the object side, a first lens group G1 with a positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 with a negative refractive power, and a third lens group G3 with a positive refractive power. The first lens group G1 and the third lens group G3 are fixed in the optical axis direction and the second lens group G2 is moved in the optical axis direction so that focusing from an infinitely distant object onto a finite distance object is performed. The third lens group G3 comprises, sequentially from the object side, an object side group G3a, an aperture stop S, and an image side group G3b.
