<p>An electric immersion heater has en element portion, a head portion, a cover defining an air space with the head portion, and a thermostatic switch mounted within and responsive to the temperature of the air space, the switch also being subject to self heating by power current flow to the heater and being such as to rapidlyswitch from its ON (low temperature) to OFF (high temperature) condition under the action of such self heating. In use of such a heater with a domestic hot water tank the thermostatic switch will cycle ON and OFF so as to bring the water temperature progressively more gradually towards the ON (low temperature) setting of the thermostat and finally will maintain the water at or about this temperature setting. The heater can also be used as a simmer control for hot water jugs, for heating seats in automative vehicles, and the like and provides an effective alternative to much more complex temperature controls.</p> |
