An energy absorbing guard rail terminal has pairs of spaced parallel rails with overlapping ends positioned on breakaway posts with mounting bolts securing one of each pair of rails to said posts, spacer rods between said parallel rails and a box beam on some of said posts facing said spacer rods, multiple spaced openings in each of said rails aligned longitudinally for registration and splace bolts in said openings joining said overlapping ends of said rails, said splice bolts forming means for telescopic resistance between said overlapping rail ends.
